Any kind of sport in the 1920s had its own fashion. In the 1920s, most sports and casual sporty outfits embraced cropped pants called plus fours. They are similar to knickers, except you don’t see the cuff band around the knee because the pant leg bags over it 4 inches .
To wear pants and a vest and otherwise dress like a man would have made them stand out – which is not something a criminal wanted to do. However, since the cross-dressing 1920s gangster girl look is a popular one, why not give it a try. I found this charming peachy pink lace sheath dress at a local shop. It was too short to wear alone, so I layered it over two white slips, the outer one having pretty pleats all around making it look more like a skirt than a slip.

Another idea is to make a Nightmare Before Christmas Victorian outfit with striped dresses, pants, skirts and tops. Another formal suit was the traditional morning suit. It was worn by upper class gentlemen and important chaps like senators and prominent businessmen, as well as comedian Charlie Chaplin. It was also typical groom attire for 1920s weddings, which took place in the morning or early afternoon.

In addition to golf, women enjoyed playing sports — or at least dressing like they were going to play a game of tennis or badminton on the weekends. A typical sporty look included a Middy top or bow-tie blouse with matching skirt, a straw sun hat, and low heel Oxford shoes . Our boy’s gangster costumes look just like our adult ones so father and son can look identical. Pants and vest don’t need to match for a casual look. Ideally, suspenders should be button-on instead of clips. You could also wear a thin leather belt, but DO NOT wear a belt and suspenders at the same time.

Wonder woman is naturally a great choice for women, and her costume can be interpreted from 1940s onwards or back further to the current movie set in 1914. Personally, I love her and Steve’s “normal” clothing in the London city scenes more than her battle armor.

Now, there are plenty of sequin and fringe flapper dresses for sale ranging from cheap costumes to luxury gowns. The most popular flapper dress color is black followed by red, blue, and then white. I included basic T-Strap shoes, although Oxfords would be a good choice too. For the hat, I chose a round crown bowler hat with satin band and large flower. The bowler was a men’s style hat, but the flower makes it feel like a women’s hat. Add some no-sass attitude and you have yourself an easy 1920s gangster girl costume. A 1920's Subtle Smokey Eye - A little less intense than current smokey eye trends, unlike today, the 1910's smoky eye was simple and elegant using only a single color. Use black, gunmetal, or dark brown eyeshadow colors. Their short hairstyles were usually always complimented by headgear – rounded hats, headbands, and scarfs. Feathers, glittery beads, and felt were the usual material used to create the headwear.
“Casual” and “1920s” don’t belong in the same sentence, at least not in the way casual clothing is understood today. Whether playing a sport or just dressing like they were going out to play, men turned to these more comfortable dressed down looks for weekends. The seersucker striped suit goes back to the early 20th century but remained popular well into the 1920s. The lightweight cotton seersucker material was perfect for summer suits.
